Assessment tool

Version 1.0
Issue Date: April 2024

This unit describes the performance outcomes required to use, adjust and maintain measuring equipment used in automotive development, service and repair.

It applies to those in an automotive and related component manufacturing environment at a production worker level.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

You may want to include more information here about the target group and the purpose of the assessments (eg formative, summative, recognition)

Evidence Required

List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.

Performance Criteria

Elements describe the essential outcomes

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. Where bold italicised text is used, further information is detailed in the range of conditions section

1. Prepare to carry out measurements

1.1 Measuring instructions and work plans are identified and interpreted

1.2 Measuring methods appropriate to the circumstances are selected according to workplace procedures

1.3 Measuring equipment is selected and checked to ensure it is calibratedwithin appropriate tolerances

2. Carry out measurements and analyse results

2.1 Measurement is carried out according to workplace procedures and equipment manufacturer specifications

2.2 Measurement results are compared with specifications to assess compliance or non-compliance

2.3 Results are documented and recommendations are made

3. Maintain measuring equipment

3.1 Information required for equipment maintenance is accessed from manufacturer specifications and interpreted

3.2 Measuring equipment is checked and calibrated against manufacturer specifications and faulty equipment is tagged and removed from service according to workplace procedures

3.3 Measuring equipment is maintained and stored and maintenance records are completed according to workplace and equipment manufacturer specifications

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

This section specifies work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included. Bold italicised wording, if used in the performance criteria, is detailed below.

Measuring instructions must include:

job sheets, work plans, specifications, drawings and designs

manufacturing instructions.

Measuring equipment must include:

callipers, vernier callipers, dividers and feeler gauges

ohm meters, volt meters, amp meters, pressure gauges, torsion wrenches.

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
