Assessment tool

Version 1.0
Issue Date: March 2024

This unit describes the performance outcomes required to use a range of equipment to machine components and parts.

It applies to those in an automotive manufacturing environment and involves the application of skills and knowledge at a specialist level.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

You may want to include more information here about the target group and the purpose of the assessments (eg formative, summative, recognition)

Evidence Required

List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.

Performance Criteria

Elements describe the essential outcomes

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. Where bold italicised text is used, further information is detailed in the range of conditions section

1. Plan and prepare

1.1 Work instructions and job specifications are identified and confirmed

1.2 Resources required for work instructions are selected

1.3 Machine controls and cutting tools are pre-set and adjusted to job specifications

1.4 Measuring equipment is calibrated to specification

1.5 Machine speed and feed controls are adjusted according to type of metal or alloy being machined

2. Produce parts

2.1 Workplace procedures are identified and followed

2.2 Parts are machined to specification using appropriate equipment and machining process

2.3 Parts are machined and checked against job specifications and specified tolerances

2.4 Identified faults and defects are rectified according to work quality goals

3. Complete work processes

3.1 Work area and equipment are cleaned and maintained according to workplace procedures

3.2 Faulty equipment is identified, tagged and reported

3.3 Machined parts are washed, dried and inspected according to workplace procedures

3.4 Work sheets and production schedule are completed and given to appropriate personnel

Submission Requirements

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

This section specifies work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included. Bold italicised wording, if used in the performance criteria, is detailed below.

Workplace procedures must include:

procedures for machining equipment operation and maintenance

procedures for recording and reporting the machining of parts

WHS requirements for machining parts.

Work quality goals must include:

elimination of machining defects

inspection practices of machined parts.

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
