Use business technologies in swimming pool and spa servicing

This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to select, use and maintain a range of business technologies to support swimming pool and spa servicing. This includes the effective use of business technologies to organise information and data, handle client payments, and monitor swimming pool and spa conditions.

The unit supports the work of those engaged in servicing domestic, commercial and public swimming pools and spas. It applies to entry-level swimming pool and spa technicians.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit of competency at the time of endorsement.

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy the requirements of the elements, performance criteria, foundation skills and range of conditions of this unit.

The person must also select three different business technologies and demonstrate their use in completing work tasks associated with swimming pool and spa servicing.

One technology must be selected from each of the following three groups:

general business technology:

digital camera

electronic diary or scheduler

electronic tablet

global positioning system (GPS)

laptop or personal computer

modem

printer

smart phone

mobile device

point-of-sale equipment:

cash register

EFTPOS equipment

scanner

swimming pool and spa-specific equipment:

chlorometer

digital water testing device

electronic stopwatch

electronic thermometer

photometer

pool management software package.

In doing the above, the person must:

demonstrate safe use of business technology used in swimming pool and spa servicing

perform routine maintenance of business technology used in swimming pool and spa servicing within scope of own role.

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must demonstrate knowledge of:

enterprise policies, protocols and procedures relating to:

information technology

use of business technology

use and maintenance procedures for:

general business technology

point-of-sale equipment

swimming pool and spa-specific equipment

work health and safety (WHS) implications of using business technology, including:

ergonomic requirements

environmental requirements.

The following must be present and available to learners during assessment activities:

equipment:

business technologies used in swimming pool and spa servicing

materials:

manuals, training booklets and/or online help or help-desks on the use of business technology.

Assessment activities are performed on an individual basis under general supervision.

Assessor requirements

As a minimum, assessors must satisfy the assessor requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) current at the time of assessment.
