List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.
Elements describe the essential outcomes. | Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. Where bold italicised text is used, further information is detailed in the range of conditions. |
1. | Prepare for waste water disposal. | 1.1. | Waste transport and disposal approvals are obtained and confirmed according to organisational and compliance requirements. |
| 1.2. | Work sheet is reviewed to identify all waste disposal requirements. |
| 1.3. | Personal protective equipment (PPE) is selected, checked and used according to organisational and compliance requirements. |
| 1.4. | Hazards and risks are identified and managed or reported according to organisational and compliance requirements. |
| 1.5. | Inlets, outlets and hatches to waste water storage facility are locked and sealed to prevent contamination of waste water and ensure safe operating procedures. |
| 1.6. | Waste water to be disposed to sewer is checked to ensure it meets sewer acceptance criteria. |
| 1.7. | Waste water samples are taken for testing and analysis according to disposal and compliance requirements. |
2. | Undertake waste water disposal activities. | 2.1. | Outlet is unlocked and flowmeter attached to record volume is discharged according to organisational requirements. |
| 2.2. | Waste water outlet is opened to allow disposal of waste water to sewer according to organisational requirements. |
| 2.3. | Relevant authority is contacted to confirm that discharge is received. |
| 2.4. | Trade waste diversion is checked during operation to ensure satisfactory operating conditions according to organisational and compliance requirements. |
| 2.5. | Sewer water discharge is monitored to ensure smooth flow, and to regulate or divert flow to alleviate system backlogs according to organisational and compliance requirements. |
| 2.6. | Off valve and lock-up systems are shut at completion of disposal activities to ensure no unauthorised leakage of waste water to sewer. |
| 2.7. | Relevant authority is notified to lock, tag and secure outlet. |
3. | Maintain drainage system. | 3.1. | When not in use, drainage system is kept free of waste to prevent contamination of waste water to sewer. |
| 3.2. | Drainage system is checked regularly to ensure it is free of blockages, obstructions and leaks according to organisational and compliance requirements. |
| 3.3. | Waste water disposal activities are reported according to organisational and compliance requirements. |
A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy the requirements of the elements, performance criteria, foundation skills and range of conditions of this unit.
The person must also dispose of waste water to sewers for two separate tasks.
While disposing of waste water to sewers, the person must:
obtain and confirm waste transport and disposal approvals
review work sheets to identify waste disposal requirements
check waste water to ensure it meets sewer acceptance criteria
lock and seal inlets, outlets and hatches to the waste water storage facility to prevent waste water contamination
take samples of waste water for testing and analysis to ensure it meets compliance requirements
carry out waste water disposal, including:
communicate with relevant authorities to confirm discharge is received and to lock, tag and secure the outlet
unlocking the outlet and attaching the flowmeter to record volume discharged
checking the trade waste diversion to ensure correct operating conditions
monitoring the sewer water discharge to ensure smooth flow and to regulate or divert flow to alleviate system backlogs
shutting the off valve and lock-up systems when waste water disposal is completed
follow organisational procedures to work safely and comply with regulatory and legal requirements
maintain drainage system to prevent contamination, blockages, obstructions and leaks
record details of waste water disposal activities on organisational proformas.
A person demonstrating competency in this unit must demonstrate knowledge of:
environmental issues relating to waste water disposal
hazards and risks relating to waste water disposal and drainage system blockages
key features of the waste management hierarchy
liquid waste classification as water
organisational policies and procedures and regulatory and legal requirements relating to waste water disposal
trade waste certificate or permit conditions
waste water contaminations
waste water disposal methods.
The following must be present and available to learners during assessment activities:
equipment:
personal protective equipment (PPE), as specified by organisational requirements
relationships with team members and supervisor:
working under supervision.
Timeframe:
as specified by organisational requirements.
Assessor requirements
As a minimum, assessors must satisfy the assessor requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) current at the time of assessment.
