A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy the requirements of the elements, performance criteria, foundation skills and range of conditions of this unit.
The person must also conduct minor maintenance and repairs on two types of waste processing plant and equipment selected from the following list:
autoclave
baler
bobcat
boiler
centrifuge
chipper
compactor
composter
conveyor
crusher
dozer and associated earthmoving equipment
forklift
hammer mill
incinerator
loaders: front-end, rear-end or tailgate
processing plant, including size-reduction processing plant
separator
shredder
sorter
tanker
truck: articulated, open-bodied or rigid.
While conducting minor maintenance and repairs to waste processing plant and equipment, the person must:
identify work activities by reviewing plant and equipment maintenance schedules
schedule maintenance activities at times which minimise disruption to operations
follow manufacturer specifications to carry out housekeeping and routine maintenance and repairs, including:
cleaning and decontaminating plant and equipment
performing visual and operational checks to identify the level of operational functioning
applying lubrication to moving parts
adjusting and replacing minor components and accessories
identifying and changing worn parts
identifying major faults and defects and scheduling their replacement
record the details of maintenance activities using organisational proformas
supervise personnel to ensure work is completed on time
follow organisational procedures to work safely and comply with regulatory and legal requirements.
A person demonstrating competency in this unit must demonstrate knowledge of:
hazards and risks associated with waste processing plant and equipment
organisational policies and procedures and regulatory and legal requirements relating to conducting maintenance and repairs on waste processing plant and equipment
plant shut-down, lock-out and isolation procedures
routine maintenance procedures relating to waste processing plant and equipment
types of, and licensing requirements for operating, plant and equipment used for waste processing.
