Version 1.0
Issue Date: April 2024
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to manage the health, hygiene and welfare of dogs and report on their health and welfare.
This unit applies to those responsible for the health and welfare of working dogs. Dogs may work in security, detection, and/or response and control roles within the organisation.
This unit may be customised, particularly regarding the methods of maintaining high standards of canine health and welfare based on different requirements of the organisation, function of the work team and location.
The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to, particularly those related to dog health.
A person undertaking this unit would usually work autonomously using support from mostly familiar resources. The role requires complex task organisation and application of moderate analytical skills.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to unit at the time of publication.
