This unit describes the skills required to establish relationships with groups and assist the group to achieve its purpose.
The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to, particularly those related to interacting with offenders, group activities, allocation of resources and reporting requirements.
The unit may apply to the work of staff actively involved in the facilitating of group work as well as to supervising team members and other support occupations involved in the delivery, facilitation or support of group activities. This role may be in a custodial setting or community program.
A person undertaking this role would normally work autonomously with support from a range of established sources. The role is complex, drawing upon the candidate's extracting, extrapolating and inferencing processes.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to unit at the time of publication.
