This unit describes the skills required to monitor the effectiveness of security, support team members and coordinate emergency responses.
This unit applies to those working with offenders/detainees in prisons, secure custodial centres and community facilities under custodial supervision, with responsibility for coordinating and monitoring security functions and the effectiveness of the local system.
The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to, particularly those related to security systems.
Those undertaking this unit work autonomously and may lead small teams. The role requires organisation, communication and reflection skills.

3.5 Complete security and incident reports, records and registers accurately and comprehensively and provide reports to management or special inquiries.

using a range of communication equipment and information sources during incidents
evaluating security incidents and potential risks or emergencies

Valid assessment of this unit requires a workplace environment or one that closely resembles normal work practice and replicates the range of conditions likely to be encountered when monitoring and reviewing the security system, including coping with difficulties, irregularities and breakdowns in routine.
Assessors must satisfy the NVR/AQTF mandatory competency requirements for assessors.
