This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to apply in-depth knowledge of the music industry to a range of work situations.

It applies to individuals working in fields including performance, composition and music teaching, business and technical production.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

3.2 Seek input from others to identify deficits in artistic judgment and music industry knowledge

3.3 Identify and participate in professional development activities to address deficits and consolidate artistic judgement and music industry knowledge

3.4 Apply music industry knowledge to formulate artistic and commercial outcomes relevant to own professional practice

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

identify sources of music industry information relevant to own professional practice

describe genres and styles of music

explain how to identify artistic qualities in music

explain how to identify commercial opportunities in music

explain the factors that influence trends in music

describe the role of networking in enhancing professional practice

list and describe a range of professional development opportunities relevant to own practice.

Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:

sources of relevant information

environments for networking and interacting with others.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
