List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.
Elements Elements describe the essential outcomes. | Performance Criteria Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. |
1. Analyse the dynamics of performance spaces | 1.1 Identify terminology used to describe performance spaces 1.2 Discuss the dynamics of space and direction with relevant personnel 1.3 Take account of the differing dynamics of space for a single performer and a group in relating to an audience 1.4 Clarify specific work practices and health and safety issues relevant to preparing performance spaces 1.5 Identify the range of possibilities for arranging performances in open spaces |
2. Develop skills for applying lighting and design aesthetics to performance spaces | 2.1 Analyse how simple set elements can be used to manipulate performance spaces 2.2 Clarify the way in which performance lighting systems function 2.3 Discuss design aesthetics which may be applied to lighting performances with relevant personnel 2.4 Take account of ways in which lighting design concepts contribute to performances |
3. Prepare performance spaces | 3.1 Determine the design elements that best apply to specific performances 3.2 Discuss the range of choices for lighting performances with relevant personnel 3.3 Collaborate with relevant personnel to develop design briefs for specific performances, taking into account event or production requirements 3.4 View space and lighting designs in rehearsals and contribute to critical analyses and revision of designs |
Evidence of the ability to:
contribute to developing at least one brief for designing a performance space
incorporate into briefs an understanding of:
interaction between the technical and artistic elements of productions
range of possibilities for designing performance spaces
use terminology associated with stage and production design
work collaboratively.
Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided for each of the above points at least once.
To complete the unit requirements the individual must:
demonstrate well-developed knowledge of:
stage layout terminology
staging elements
ways in which indoor and outdoor performance spaces can be used
describe issues and challenges that can arise when designing performance spaces and suggest solutions to address them
demonstrate knowledge of:
design aesthetics associated with lighting performances and manipulating performance spaces
work health and safety (WHS) principles and procedures related to designing performance spaces.
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:
performance spaces that can be blacked out
basic rig and control system allowing for lighting from a range of different angles, intensities and colours
materials for transforming spaces, such as rostra, flats, curtains and treads.
Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
