Establish and refine a brief
Assessment tool
Version 1.0
Issue Date: April 2024
This unit reflects the situation where a designer plays a key role in determining the scope and nature of work required.
This unit builds on the unit 'BSBDES402A Interpret and respond to a brief', which focuses on working with an established brief. Because people in many industries require the skills and knowledge in this unit, it has been written to allow for contextualisation. In practice, this unit supports and is supported by other units describing the specialist skills and knowledge required by specific design disciplines.
This unit underpins effective performance in all design disciplines. It is highly recommended that this unit be assessed with or after the following units:
BSBDES402A Interpret and respond to a brief
any specialised design unit, e.g. CUFCOS504A Design costumes.
There is also a strong link between this unit and the following unit, and combined assessment and or training would be appropriate:
BSBDES305A Source and apply information on the history and theory of design.
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required by a designer to work pro-actively with a client commissioning organisation to develop and negotiate a design brief.
No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of endorsement.
You may want to include more information here about the target group and the purpose of the assessments (eg formative, summative, recognition)
