This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work within an arts organisation context. As such the unit requires a general knowledge and understanding of the spectrum of arts organisations and the application of that knowledge to specific work practices.

Method of assessment

Assessment may incorporate a range of methods to assess performance and the application of essential underpinning knowledge, and might include:

case studies to assess application of knowledge to different industry contexts and situations

oral or written questions to assess knowledge of different aspects of the arts industry

review of portfolios of evidence

third party workplace reports of performance by the candidate.

Assessment of this unit requires access to the materials resources and equipment needed to research information on a range of arts organisations.

Assessment Tasks

public galleries (national, state, regional)

theatres.

Ways in which knowledge could be used to adjust/enhance work practice may relate to:

greater efficiencies

identification of potential partnerships/co-operative approaches

more appropriate communication with colleagues

sharing of resources

tailoring of administrative systems.

Different structures for arts organisations may relate to:

accountability

decision making

funding

legal/governance structures

orientation

philosophy

staffing (volunteers, specialists, multi-skilled)

timeframes.
