This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to manage a deployed capability as a member of the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

It includes deployment planning, supervising deployment activities and integrating operations with other co-located capabilities, supporting the leadership of the team, and communicating instructions.

This unit applies to personnel employed in the ADF who exercise supervisory responsibility over a number of support teams while deployed on ADF activities.

The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.

Persons undertaking this unit work autonomously, supervise teams, and perform complex tasks in a range of contexts that could be unpredictable.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

establishing key performance indicators

issuing formal and quick orders in an operational setting

mentoring and directing team leaders

planning and organising tasking

preparing tasking schedules and plans.

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

deployment instructions must include one or more of the following:

command, control and communication guidance

commander’s intent/mission statement

execution guidelines including timings and phasing

situation update

management of available resources

orders appreciation process

planning principles

arranging for transport of refrigerated items

compiling freight and load documentation

completing deployment documentation

confirming equipment serviceability and readiness

relevant legislation, and operational policies and procedures

risk management principles

role and capabilities of other health care providers

safe workplace practices as they relate to the operational environment

structure, function and layout of deployed capability

team leadership management principles

time management strategies to set priorities.

As a minimum, assessors must satisfy applicable regulatory requirements, which include requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations, where it is appropriate to do so; where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions.

Resources for assessment must include access to:

a range of relevant exercises, case studies and/or other simulations based on a range of operational situation from recent and historical experience to tailor tasking

relevant and appropriate materials, tools, equipment, stores and personal protective equipment currently used in industry

dependent personnel (team leaders and team members)

relevant documentation including operational procedures, regulations, codes of practice and operation manuals.
