List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.
ELEMENTS | PERFORMANCE CRITERIA |
Elements describe the essential outcomes. | Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. Where bold italicised text is used, further information is detailed in the range of conditions. |
1. Prepare for edge banding | 1.1 Review work order and where required check with appropriate personnel. 1.2 Identify type and quantity of panels to be edge banded and obtain panels. 1.3 Select appropriate equipment and check for operational effectiveness in line with manufacturer's recommendations. 1.4 Select edge banding process in line with work order. |
2. Set up edge banding equipment | 2.1 Follow lock out procedures, set machine to suit material to be edged and adjust as required. 2.2 Use equipment in line with organisational safety procedures, manufacturer’s instructions environmental protection practices. 2.3 Conduct test runs to check machine operation, accuracy and quality of finished work and make adjustments to machine settings. 2.4 Use suitable tested materials for processing or reject and dispose of in line with environmental protection practices. |
3. Apply edging | 3.1 Feed panels into machine in line with manufacturer's instructions and safety procedures. 3.2 Monitor machine operations to ensure product quality and output. 3.3 Minimise waste by checking trim distances for cut off on each panel. 3.4 Repair sub-standard panels, dispose of or recycle in line with environmental protection practices. 3.5 Identify routine processing and equipment faults and resolve or report to appropriate personnel. 3.6 Complete production and quality records and report in line with organisational procedures. |
4. Complete operator maintenance | 4.1 Follow organisational safety procedures to lock out equipment. 4.2 Check edging mechanisms for bluntness and build-up of glue and rectify. 4.3 Check and reload edge treatments in line with manufacturer recommendations. 4.4 Clear dust and debris from machine area. 4.5 Record and report equipment faults and maintenance requirements to appropriate personnel. |
A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. If a specific volume or frequency is not stated below, then evidence must be provided that the following requirements have been performed on at least one occasion:

Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.
Assessor requirements
Assessors must:
hold the appropriate assessor competency standards as outlined in regulations; and
be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed; and
be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining their industry currency and assessor competence.
