List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.
Elements describe the essential outcomes. | Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. Where bold italicised text is used, further information is detailed in the range of conditions. |
1. Select software | 1.1 Identify and interpret work order, review and evaluate software options. 1.2 Select appropriate software program to meet quotation requirements. |
2. Interpret plans and loading conditions | 2.1 Interpret and assess plans, drawing views and notes; identify loading information and design requirements and restrictions. 2.2 Refer to engineers for calculations. 2.3 Obtain additional information and data from appropriate personnel and other sources. 2.4 Create functional and pictorial images of structures, including trusses, frames and or floors. 2.5 Refer design requirements outside software limitations to appropriate personnel for resolution. |
3. Use computer programs to estimate components | 3.1 Transfer fixed design details to layout data in line with software requirements. 3.2 Identify truss, frame or floor type and select timber type and species in line with material suitability and availability. 3.3 Define design structure using spacing of components, including trusses, frames and or floors in line with industry standards. 3.4 Fix component sizes to clarify and firm design options. 3.5 Select layouts, spacing and sizing of individual structural members progressively in line with software requirements. 3.6 Produce design details in line with software and order requirements. 3.7 Select design options based on feasibility, ease of erection, cost, material availability, customer preference and site requirements. 3.8 Review design details and modify without compromising truss, frame or structure strength. |
4. Prepare quotation | 4.1 Calculate total cost and produce quotation in designated format, using appropriate software. 4.2 Review quotation and check for completeness and accuracy in line with organisational procedures. 4.3 Complete computer records and prepare quotation for presentation in line with organisational procedures. |
A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. If a specific volume or frequency is not stated below, then evidence must be provided that the following requirements have been performed on at least one occasion:
interpret plans, loading conditions and technical information and conveying information in written, sketch and oral form
use a scientific calculator and appropriate computer software to estimate truss, beam and frame materials and quantities
produce quotations within designated timeframes
A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:
applicable building and structural regulations for timber wall frames, roof and floor trusses
common industry terminology for all components of timber wall frames, roof and floor trusses
common industry standard layouts, spacing and sizing dimensions of individual members for timber wall frames, roof and floor trusses
relationship between component loads and supports and spans
for the software:
system functions and capabilities
methods to input and amend design factors and other data
methods used to estimate truss, beam and frame materials and quantities
methods to store and retrieve quotations and other data
industry and specific organisational:
computerised quotation processes for timber wall frames, roof and floor trusses
sources of costs for materials and labour to manufacture
formats for and inclusions of quotations
organisational procedures for preparing and documenting computerised quotations for timber wall frames, roof and floor trusses.
The following resources must be made available:
computers, keyboards and industry current software programs used to produce quotations for timber wall frames, roof and floor trusses
designs, plans, technical specifications and notes for timber wall frames, roof and floor trusses on which to base quotation
in-house material price lists, product description sheets or manuals; either electronic or hard copy
template documents for recording calculations and quotations
sample production and installation advice documents
organisational procedures for preparing and documenting computerised quotations for timber wall frames, roof and floor trusses.
Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.
Assessor requirements
Assessors must:
hold the appropriate assessor competency standards as outlined in regulations; and
be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed; and
be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining their industry currency and assessor competence.
