Assessment tool

Version 1.0
Issue Date: April 2024

This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to interpret designs and plans to produce a limited range of floor system drawings and production documents using computers in a timber production or design setting.

The unit applies to Designer, Timber Manufactured Products Technician, Production Supervisor.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

You may want to include more information here about the target group and the purpose of the assessments (eg formative, summative, recognition)

Evidence Required

List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.

Elements describe the essential outcomes.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. Where bold italicised text is used, further information is detailed in the range of conditions.

1. Interpret plans and designs

1.1 Gather information about designs and plans, design factors and specifications.

1.2 Access and interpret industry and organisational codes and standards to ensure production of compliant drawings and production documents.

1.3 Identify stakeholders and consult where clarification is needed.

2. Create floor systems

2.1 Design floor systems to ensure compliance with identified standards.

2.2 Check computer software for currency.

2.3 Input applied loads and data to software.

2.4 Identify load transfers and load bearing points.

2.5 Input floor area and create floor systems layout.

2.6 Refer design requirements outside software limitations to appropriate personnel for resolution.

3. Review floor system layouts

3.1 Identify available materials and other production efficiencies and amend designs.

3.2 Review designs to ensure identified standards are maintained.

3.3 Follow organisational procedures to refer design variations to relevant stakeholders where design varies from identified standards.

4. Create outputs

4.1 Prepare drawings and documentation in line with identified standards.

4.2 Store drawings and documentation and communicate to relevant stakeholders.

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. If a specific volume or frequency is not stated below, then evidence must be provided that the following requirements have been performed on at least one occasion:

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
