List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.
Elements describe the essential outcomes. | Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. Where bold italicised text is used, further information is detailed in the range of conditions. |
1. Prepare for laminating | 1.1 Review work order and where required check with appropriate personnel. 1.2 Select appropriate personal protective equipment and check for operational effectiveness. 1.3 Obtain type and quantity of board and laminating material from the production process. 1.4 Select production process in line with work order. |
2. Laminate board | 2.1 Use equipment in line with organisational safety procedures, manufacturer’s instructions and environmental protection practices. 2.2 Complete pre start-up equipment checks to ensure operational effectiveness. 2.3 Load material and board and feed in correct sequence to suit planned assembly. 2.4 Check pressing process regularly to prevent creases, bubbles or other surface defects. 2.5 Monitor board and laid up material for position, adhesion, contamination and finish. 2.6 Transfer finished panels for further processing in line with organisational safety procedures. 2.7 Dispose of sub-standard material in line with environmental protection practices. |
3. Shut down and clean equipment | 3.1 Coordinate shutdown with other line operators in line with organisational safety procedures. 3.2 Strip and clean laminating press in line with organisational procedures. 3.3 Dispose of or store excess bonding agent in line with environmental protection practices. 3.4 Keep machine clear of dust and debris in line with organisational safety procedures. 3.5 Record and report production outcomes and equipment faults to appropriate personnel. |
A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. If a specific volume or frequency is not stated below, then evidence must be provided that the following requirements have been performed on at least one occasion:
laminate boards in line with individual work orders prescribing different laminating thicknesses and quantities; types of boards include:
medium density fibreboard
chipboard
plywood
fibreboard
apply different types of laminating material which include:
laminate
veneer
treated paper
after each of the above jobs, strip and clean the laminating press.
A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:
environmental protection practices for forest products factory settings:
reducing water and energy use
cleaning plant, tools and equipment
disposing of, recycling and reusing boards
disposing of hazardous substances

properties, at a basic level of understanding, of laminating materials and their uses for different types of boards:
laminate
veneer
treated paper
characteristics of board types and the effects of lamination:
medium density fibreboard
chipboard
plywood
fibreboard
typical work flow processes techniques used to laminate boards:
applying laminating material
spreading bonding agent
compressing laminating material to boards
purpose, features and operation of equipment used to laminate board:
laminating press with bond spreading stations
feeding systems
methods used to:
strip and clean laminating presses
safely store bonding agents
organisational procedures specific to laminating board:

Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.
Assessor requirements
Assessors must:
hold the appropriate assessor competency standards as outlined in regulations; and
be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed; and
be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining their industry currency and assessor competence.
