List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.
Elements describe the essential outcomes. | Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. Where bold italicised text is used, further information is detailed in the range of conditions. |
1. Prepare for veneer immunisation. | 1.1 Work order is reviewed and checked with appropriate personnel 1.2 Identify hazards and control risk according to site procedures. 1.3 Retrieve from storage location and assess type and quantity of veneer to be immunised. 1.4 Check equipment for operational effectiveness in line with manufacturer's recommendations. 1.5 Plan immunising process in line with site procedures. 1.6 Communicate plan with relevant personnel in line with site requirements. |
2. Prepare chemicals and perform veneer immunisation process. | 2.1 Access and prepare type and quantity of chemicals and solutions to be used. 2.2 Operate ancillary equipment used to add chemical solutions in line with operating procedures. 2.3 Regularly test samples of solution in line with standard operating procedures. 2.4 Plan load and unload cycles to provide selected treatment and drainage time for veneer. 2.5 Load and unload veneer from solution tanks in line with standard operating procedures. 2.6 Operate transfer equipment to shift veneer and visually assess treated veneer to establish modifications required to treatment process. 2.7 Monitor drainage of treated veneer to ensure even drying. |
3. Reject or pack and label veneer panels and report information. | 3.1 Reject and dispose of, recycle or re-use veneer panels with a failed immunisation process, in line with site procedures and environmental requirements. 3.2 Pack and label dried veneer panels in line with standard operating procedures. 3.3 Record and report veneer immunising process and equipment faults to appropriate personnel. |
4. Clean up and store chemicals. | 4.1 Perform veneer immunisation clean up in line with safe work procedures. 4.2 Check condition of treating mechanisms and rectify if required. 4.3 Clear treatment area of dust, shavings and debris in line with site requirements. 4.4 Store chemicals in line with statutory requirements. |
A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. If a specific volume or frequency is not stated below, then evidence must be provided that the following requirements have been performed on at least one occasion:
prepare the work area for the veneer immunisation process according to work health and safety (WHS) requirements and site requirements
prepare chemicals and immunise veneer according to standard operating procedure
load and unload at least three cycles of veneer
visually assess immunised veneer for faults and dispose of according to standard operating procedure and environmental requirements
record veneer immunisation process and faults according to workplace procedures
store chemicals according to statutory requirements.
A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:
procedures for environmental protection requirements, including the safe disposal of waste material, the safe use and storage of chemicals and safe cleaning of plant and work area
safe work procedures for immunising veneer
hazards and risks associated with immunising veneer and how to control them according to hierarchy of risk control
veneer immunising techniques
procedures for fault finding during visual inspection of veneer to determine suitability for packing

characteristics of veneer (quarter sawn, back sawn, radial/rotary sawn)
storage locations and stock rotation positions
procedures for packing and labelling dried veneer panels
procedures for checking condition of treating mechanisms
procedures for recording and reporting veneer immunisation process and faults using manual or electronic recording systems
procedures for equipment lock-out

The following resources must be made available:
work order
chemicals or chemical solutions used to immunise veneer which must include one or more of the following:
insecticides
solvents
preservative oils
waterborne preservatives
types of veneers including quarter sawn, back sawn or radial/rotary sawn

Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.
Assessor requirements
Assessors must:
