You may want to include more information here about the target group and the purpose of the assessments (eg formative, summative, recognition)

Evidence Required

List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.

ELEMENT

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

Elements describe the essential outcomes.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element.

1 Identify fonts

1.1 A range of fonts is identified to meet diverse client requirements and final outputmedia

1.2 Point sizes and leading of type are identified to meet diverse client requirements and final output media

2 Select, fit and produce type for a basic brief

2.1 Appropriate type is selected to meet brief specifications

2.2 Type is fitted into copy space allocated according to design layout

2.3 Type is set and produced using rules and boxes according to design layout

3 Proofread and correct type

3.1 Type is checked for accuracy, omissions and errors according to job specifications

3.2 Proofs are marked-up with correct proofreading marks

3.3 Type is corrected in accordance with job specifications

Evidence of the ability to:

correctly prepare TWO different typesetting jobs using manual or electronic equipment and suitable software to select, set, arrange and modify type according to job specifications and listed performance criteria

find and use information relevant to task from a variety of information sources.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

identify different printing processes and/or electronic media and explain effects of each on type selection and design

define aspects of typography that influence design of the brief

outline limitations with type reproduction in printing processes

explain characteristics of and differences between serif and sans serif categories

explain type atmosphere

identify elements of a dynamic arrangement

identify and explain text and margin proof-reader marks

identify and use correct grammar and punctuation, including apostrophes

list manuals, safety and other documentation relevant to this task and identify where are they kept and what information is included.

Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the Pre-Press field of work and include access to special purpose tools, industry software packages, equipment and materials.

Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.

Submission Requirements

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
