List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.
ELEMENTS | PERFORMANCE CRITERIA |
Elements describe the essential outcomes | Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. Where bold italicised text is used, further information is detailed in the range of conditions section. |
1. Plan and prepare work | 1.1 Conduct risk assessment for environmental safety. 1.2 Determine work requirements and work site from specifications or instructions. 1.3 Prepare work plans using relevant plans, drawings, standards and technical data according to job and safety requirements. 1.4 Select and use electrical safety equipment. 1.5 Check coordination issues, including permission to access third-party sites, isolations and permits to work with relevant personnel. 1.6 Identify, check and prepare materials, equipment and resources required to satisfy job plan. 1.7 Identify basic metering equipment and recognise specifications for operation. 1.8 Select safety equipment and fit and use personal protective equipment. 1.9 Identify yourself to customers and organise arrangements to complete repairs. |
2. Read metering equipment | 2.1 Report readings outside normal parameters and faulty meters and apply organisational procedures for estimating consumption. 2.2 Collect and report information on the performance of the metering equipment. |
3. Install flow control and metering devices | 3.1 Apply electrical safety equipment. 3.2 Isolate water flow. 3.3 Install meter or meter replacement. 3.4 Restore water flow and check for leaks and meter operation. 3.5 Remove electrical safety equipment and restore site. |
4. Maintain flow control and metering devices | 4.1 Carry out routine inspections of flow control and metering facilities in water distribution or wastewater collection systems. 4.2 Carry out preventative maintenance and service of equipment and facilities. |
5. Finalise work and complete documentation | 5.1 Check, tag and report faulty equipment and tools. 5.2 Store equipment, tools and materials. 5.3 Restore work site. 5.4 Maintain compliance reports and workplace records. 5.5 Record and report activities. |
Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the candidate must demonstrate evidence of performance of the following on at least one occasion.
identifying and responding to operational problems
conducting risk assessment
using electrical safety procedures
using personal protective equipment
producing reports and logs
performing basic calculations to install and test equipment
installing flow control and metering devices
planning and preparing for installation of flow control and metering devices
interpreting plans, specifications and instructions for installation of flow control and metering devices
conducting routine inspections, maintenance and servicing of basic metering, flow control and regulating devices
completing workplace documentation
installing, replacing and securing basic volumetric metering equipment for domestic, industrial and commercial premises
dealing with customers
Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the depth of knowledge demonstrated must be appropriate to the job context of the candidate.
impact of the principles of hydraulics on the operation of flows
system layout
lock out procedures for mechanical and electrical installations
materials handling
environmental, landscape and ground structure of work area for restoration
risk factors and potential hazards
equipment operation, capacity and limitations
effects of weather and conditions on operation of system, site and plant
flow measurement principles and procedures
layout and performance of pipes and fittings
relevant utilities and service bodies
meter types
data collection and recording system
work in confined spaces and at height
electrical safety
Competency should be assessed in an actual workplace or in a simulated environment, with access to equipment and infrastructure appropriate to the outcome. Competency should be demonstrated over time to ensure the candidate is assessed across a variety of situations.
Assessors must satisfy the NVR/AQTF mandatory competency requirements for assessors.
