This unit describes the skills required to identify, implement and monitor relevant policy and report on implementation.

This unit applies to public sector staff and other stakeholders working in a role where they are required to support policy implementation.

The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.

Those undertaking this unit would work independently. They would perform routine tasks in a range of familiar contexts.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to unit at the time of publication.

1. Identify relevant policy

1.1 Identify work situations that are shaped by government or organisation policy.

1.2 Identify and locate policy relating to particular work situations.

2. Implement policy

2.1 Interpret policy to be implemented to identify and plan for change in work practices.

2.2 Identify the implications of policy for individual work practices, confirm and adjust practices to reflect policy requirements.

2.3 Support others affected by policy requirements to accommodate those requirements.

3. Monitor and report on policy implementation

3.1 Gather, record and report information that will assist with the evaluation of the effectiveness of policy implementation.

3.2 Gather, record and report information that will assist with evaluation of policy impact on organisational outcomes.

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the candidate must demonstrate evidence of performance of the following on at least one occasion:

reading complex and formal documents and providing information on their application

preparing accurate written reports with language and structures suited to the intended audience

working with legislation drafters and legal advisers

consulting on and preparing policy guidelines

adjusting communication to suit different audiences

gathering and analysing policy feedback

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the depth of knowledge demonstrated must be appropriate to the job context of the candidate.

Assessment Tasks
