This unit applies to specialised exercise trainers operating within fitness or health environments such as fitness centres, health clubs, gyms or autonomously in the fitness or health industry.

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to source and evaluate evidence based research information and apply findings to the prescription of exercise management strategies to support the long and short term goals of clients with various identified medical conditions or musculoskeletal needs.

Context of and specific resources for assessment

Assessment must ensure the identification of client needs relevant to the candidate's current or intended work environment and the development of customised solutions to demonstrate consistency of performance.

Assessment must also ensure access to:

relevant databases to locate research literature

relevant texts, manuals or research papers

relevant journals

access to internet or on-line research information

exercise programs for a range of clients

a range of clients with a real or simulated range of long and short term health goals.

Method of assessment

A range of assessment methods should be used to assess practical skills and knowledge. The following examples are appropriate for this unit:

observation of

oral and or written questioning to assess knowledge of

third-party reports from a supervisor detailing appropriate work performed by the candidate.

Holistic assessment with other units relevant to the industry sector, workplace and job role is recommended.

Assessment Tasks
