Context of assessment

Assessment of competency must comply with the assessment requirements of the relevant maritime regulations

Assessment of this unit must be undertaken within relevant marine authority approved and audited arrangements by a registered training organisation:

As a minimum, assessment of knowledge must be conducted through appropriate written/oral examinations

Appropriate practical assessment must occur:

i

at the registered training organisation; and/or

ii

on an shore-side terminal or wharf

Access is required to opportunities to:

a

participate in a range of exercises, case studies and other simulated practical and knowledge assessments that demonstrate the skills and knowledge to follow OH&S and emergency procedures in a range of simulated mooring and untying operational situations; and/or

b

demonstrate the application of OH&S procedures in actual shore-based mooring and untying operations for an ocean-going vessel at an Australian terminal or wharf.

1. GENERAL CONTEXT

Work must be carried out:

in compliance with relevant maritime regulations and OH&S legislation as they apply to mooring and untying operations on ocean-going vessels.

under supervision as part of a mooring or untying team, with accountability and responsibility for self and others in safely achieving the prescribed outcomes.

the safe conduct of a range of mooring and untying techniques across a variety of vessel types and port facilities.

2. WORKSITE ENVIRONMENT

Mooring and untying operations may be carried out:

for any ocean-going Australian or international commercial vessel

by day or night in both normal and emergency situations

under any permissible conditions of weather
