Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare to trap and store pollen
- Colony is assessed for suitability for pollen collection.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is selected and used.
- Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) hazards associated with working with bees are identified and appropriate action is taken to minimise risks to self and others.
- All equipment used in process of collecting pollen is cleaned and sanitised according to food safety requirements and enterprise procedures.

- Suitable pollen trapping mechanism is constructed and installed in hive.
- Personal hygiene requirements are met, including washed hands and clean clothing.
- Pollen is collected at appropriate frequency, depending on its intended use as bee feed or for human consumption.
- Risk of theft by ants is assessed and steps are taken to reduce likelihood of this occurring.
- Risk of colony decline is assessed and pollen collection is stopped if necessary.
- Pollen is temporarily stored in a suitable container to be transported to processing facilities.
