Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Identify hazards and risks
   • Identify and source Codes of Practice, legislation, regulations and industry requirements relating to chemical use
   • Identify hazards involved in chemical handling and application
2. Assess risks and develop control procedures
   • Assess risks associated with chemicals used
   • Develop risk control measures and emergency action plans
   • Develop control procedures for transport, handling, storage, application, decontamination and disposal of chemicals
   • Develop a continuous improvement strategy to minimise risk
3. Monitor and assess adherence to chemical risk procedures
   • Provide appropriate personal protective equipment for employees using chemicals
   • Assess staff selection of application equipment according to procedures
   • Assess the ability of staff to follow restrictions on chemical use, application, decontamination and disposal
   • Assess how risk control procedures are followed in the workplace
4. Evaluate risk control measures and maintain records
   • Develop procedures for evaluating the effectiveness of risk control measures
   • Identify shortfalls during evaluation and subsequently rectify
   • Maintain risk assessment records according to industry, label, legislative and regulatory requirements
