Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare for work
   • Confirm the location of the drainage system
   • Select materials, tools, equipment and machinery
   • Carry out pre-operational and safety checks on tools, equipment and machinery
   • Identify work health and safety hazards, assess risks and implement controls
   • Select, use and maintain suitable personal protective equipment
2. Assess drainage and collection systems
   • Determine damaged or broken components
   • Inspect areas for signs of water pooling and problems
   • Take measurements to determine drainage performance
   • Identify and record factors external to the system which may cause interference
3. Record and report system performance status
   • Record water quality and quantity
   • Record water table depth, soil moisture and salinity
   • Document strategies that minimise the negative environmental impacts and maximise the positive impacts of the drainage system

Performance Evidence

The candidate must be assessed on their ability to integrate and apply the performance requirements of this unit in a workplace setting. Performance must be demonstrated consistently over time and in a suitable range of contexts.
