Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare for the handling of explosives
- Identify and action work health and safety policies and procedures and legislative requirements for the handling, storage and transport of specified quantities of explosives
- Check for damaged or defective explosives and take action according to enterprise procedures
- Conduct risk assessment for handling explosives that addresses local conditions and factors, and implement safety procedures
- Prepare and display signage and placarding on vehicles or storage facilities for explosives as directed by legislative requirements
- Identify and implement, where necessary, emergency procedures for the transportation, handling and storage of explosives
- Establish monitoring and recording systems for authorisation to handle, store and transport explosives that comply with the Australian Explosives code and other legislative requirements
- Transport explosives
- Establish arrangements to maintain the integrity and security of transported explosives in line with enterprise requirements
- Institute security procedures to ensure explosives arrive at the destination in tact according to specified time and condition
- Implement workplace strategies to carry out emergency procedures as required in compliance with legislative requirements
- Load and transport explosives safely and in accordance with legislative and individual enterprise requirements
- Store explosives
- Define and action the requirements for the safe and secure storage of explosives in accordance with legislative requirements
- Define requirements for personnel authorised to gain access to explosives
- Assess storage conditions to ensure they meet requirements for safe storage of explosives
- Monitor and maintain security in accordance with legislative requirements
- Accurately implement and maintain recording systems for the handling and storage of explosives in accordance with legislative requirements
