Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Assess maintenance work required
   • Identify works required under the management plan and enterprise procedures
   • Identify machine, equipment and materials necessary to carry out maintenance works
   • Estimate materials required for maintenance work
2. Prepare for maintenance
   • Organise machine, equipment and materials to carry out maintenance works
   • Prepare and assemble safety equipment and materials
3. Maintain condition of place
   • Undertake maintenance work according to work programs and work health and safety policies and procedures
   • Report presence of threats
   • Report evidence of deterioration and wear
   • Clean up site on completion of maintenance works
4. Protect cultural place
   • Report any evidence of damage to place to supervisor
   • Report any breach of legislation or enterprise regulations to supervisor
   • Maintain protective barriers and signs

Performance Evidence

The candidate must be assessed on their ability to integrate and apply the performance requirements of this unit in a workplace setting. Performance must be demonstrated consistently over time and in a suitable range of contexts.

The candidate must provide evidence that they can:

assess the level of work required to maintain the cultural place

prepare for and carry out maintenance activities in accordance with organisational, cultural and environmental requirements

report deterioration or damage to place to supervisor

report incidents of breaches of legislation including vandalism

apply work health and safety practices in the context of own work

potential threats to area

techniques of site maintenance and protection

range of maintenance works undertaken on cultural sites

enterprise procedures relating to the reporting of deterioration or damage to place or reporting of incidents
