Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare equipment for injection operation
   • Determine work requirements and identify hazards, assess risks and implement control measures
   • Select required tools and equipment and check for safe operation
   • Select and use suitable personal protective equipment
   • Select materials and services and confirm they are available and ready for operation
   • Prepare equipment and materials to meet injection requirements
2. Operate the injection process
   • Start up the injection process
   • Monitor control points to confirm performance is maintained within specification
   • Identify, rectify and report out-of-specification equipment performance
   • Deliver injection requirements
   • Put emergency procedures in place for spillage or chemical accidents
3. Shut down injection equipment
   • Shut down injection equipment
   • Clean injection equipment
   • Collect, treat, dispose of or recycle waste generated by both the process and cleaning procedures
4. Monitor plant response and environmental impacts of injection
   • Monitor plant response to injection
   • Record and report environmental hazards of injection
   • Maintain withholding periods for chemical application on food crops
   • Restrict access to areas where chemicals have been applied through injection if required
5. Record information
   • Record workplace information in the appropriate format

The candidate must be assessed on their ability to integrate and apply the performance requirements of this unit in a workplace setting.

The candidate must provide evidence that they can:

complete relevant calculations such as dilution rates

handle hazardous chemicals safely

identify injection requirements

implement routine maintenance and minor repairs of the system

implement routine system cleaning requirements

monitor usage and dilution rates

report and record corrective action

select and prepare injection materials

shut down equipment in response to an emergency situation
