Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for installation
   • Confirm work instructions with the supervisor
   • Prepare tools and equipment for use
   • Check the quantity and quality of materials
   • Identify and report to supervisor manual handling issues and other work health and safety hazards
   • Select, use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) and clothing
   • Put in place measures to avoid environmental impacts before starting work
2. Set out the site for path construction
   • Mark out the location of the proposed path
   • Put public risk protection measures in place
3. Undertake ground preparation
   • Clear the area of debris and excavate to base level
   • Relocate or dispose of soil and waste materials
   • Place and compact base material to the required finished level
   • Install drainage structures
   • Install edge restraints, where required
   • Check set out work at regular intervals with supervisor, according to the site plan
4. Lay surface aggregate materials
   • Spread surface aggregate materials over the area to the designated depth
   • Screed material to ensure consistent depth of materials
   • Level aggregate materials to the designated level and falls
   • Compact aggregate materials using appropriate machinery
5. Make good the site
   • Dispose of or recycle soil and waste material from the site
   • Reinstate areas disturbed by installation works
   • Clean and store all tools and equipment

Performance Evidence

The candidate must be assessed on their ability to integrate and apply the performance requirements of this unit in a workplace setting. Performance must be demonstrated consistently over time and in a suitable range of contexts.

The candidate must provide evidence that they can:
