Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare for feeding
   • Identify work health and safety hazards, assess risks and implement suitable controls
   • Assess and record livestock welfare and condition
   • Identify livestock production status or stage of production
   • Identify environmental impacts of undertaking work, assess likely outcomes and, if necessary, take responsible action
   • Check and maintain feed distribution system and feeders
   • Follow enterprise animal welfare polices
2. Carry out feeding and watering
   • Check automatic and computerised feeders for blockages and correct functioning
   • Rectify abnormalities or irregularities with feed stocks
   • Monitor feed consumption and wastage and make adjustments
   • Feed and water livestock as required
   • Adjust watering systems for height or position
   • Check water flow and make appropriate adjustments
   • Empty watering containers or lines and clean where necessary
3. Conduct hygiene and administration activities
   • Clean feeding equipment appropriately to maintain hygiene standards
   • Collate gathered information and present the information
   • Complete required records and documentation

Performance Evidence

The candidate must be assessed on their ability to integrate and apply the performance requirements of this unit in a workplace setting. Performance must be demonstrated consistently over time and in a suitable range of contexts.

The candidate must provide evidence that they can:

methods of cleaning feed equipment, cleaning agents, their proper use and disposal, and relevant work health and safety practices
