Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Identify turf renovation needs
   • Inspect and visually evaluate turf surfaces to determine their condition
   • Undertake soil tests to determine their need for amelioration
   • Perform compaction, visual, physical and chemical tests
   • Undertake water quality tests, where appropriate, to determine its effect on turf growth and development
2. Select appropriate renovation techniques
   • Consider a range of renovation techniques and practices based on past practices and existing condition of turf
   • Refer to renovation records for information about previous practices and timing
   • Select turf renovation techniques according to the condition of the turf and the intended outcome of the program
   • Determine the timing of the renovation program according to the requirements of the turf species, requirements of the practice and the needs of players and use of the turf facility
   • Prepare an on-going turf maintenance program
3. Organise staff and resources for turf renovation project
   • Record and program the turf renovation program
   • Determine machinery and equipment for the renovation program and check for availability and working condition
   • Calculate and order consumable requirements
   • Contact and hire contractors and machinery, if necessary, according to the requirements of the program
4. Review renovation outcomes and complete associated record keeping
   • Record soil testing and water quality test results
   • Record direct costs of consumables and contractors
   • Record indirect costs of staff involvement
   • Record renovation practices and outcomes
