Elements and Performance Criteria
- Select, operate and monitor navigation aids/systems
- Navigate the aircraft in IMC/simulated IMC
- Aircraft position fix is determined solely with reference to navigation aid/system
- Tracks are intercepted to and from navigation aids/systems
- Track is maintained within tolerances specified in AIP
- Timings are recorded, assessed and revised as required
- Station passage is recognised
- GPS/DME arc procedure is performed within tolerances specified in AIP if applicable
- Planned route above Lowest Safe Altitude (LSALT) is maintained in accordance with IFR
- IMC to visual flight transition is performed before descending below the lesser of LSALT/MSA
- Route and destination weather conditions are monitored and appropriate actions are executed
- Descent point is calculated and/or amended
- Conduct a diversion to revised route or alternate aerodrome
- Requirement for an unplanned diversion is recognised and confirmed
- Route to alternate aerodrome, navigation aid and /or revised track is determined
- Planned route maintains height above LSALT in accordance with regulations while flying under IFR
- Flight planned route is diverted to track to alternate aerodrome, navigation aid and/or aerodrome
- Operational information for alternate aerodrome/s is reviewed and applied according to regulations and/or operator procedures
- Fuel plan is reviewed and amended according to regulations and/or operator procedures
- Conduct holding pattern in IMC
- Holding pattern is entered at or above LSALT/MSA appropriate to inbound heading using sector entry according to AIP
- Published holding pattern is flown not below the specified minimum altitude, allowing for wind effect, turning inbound on the prescribed track
- Holding pattern is departed in accordance with ATC instructions
- Comply with Air Traffic Control rules and procedures for IFR flights
- Separation from other air traffic in IMC/simulated IMC is maintained
- Airspace requirements are complied with utilising IFR procedures
- Two-way communication is maintained with ATS and other aircraft in accordance with IFR procedures
- ATC clearances and/or radar vectoring instructions are complied with
- Manage hazardous weather conditions
- Demonstrate turbulence penetration technique
