Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Identify roles within an organisation
   • Identify the core functions and structure of the organisation
   • Describe the relationships between the organisation, its stakeholders and other organisations or entities
   • Explain individual responsibilities of committee and board members within an organisation
   • Identify differences between roles of governance and management
   • Assess the relationships and overlapping roles between board, committee and staff
2. Work within structure of the organisation
   • Perform designated committee or board duties
   • Follow the committee or board’s decision making processes
   • Manage real and perceived conflict of interest issues that are associated with competing roles and responsibilities
   • Follow policies and procedures on confidentiality
3. Follow legal requirements
   • Comply with legislative requirements that apply to organisational committee or board duties
   • Apply provisions of legislation relevant to governance of the organisation
   • Comply with relevant aspects of corporation law and terms and conditions of funding agreements
   • Adhere to the constitution of the organisation while undertaking workplace responsibilities
4. Monitor operations
   • Identify and analyse outcomes for each operational area
   • Use information provided to review effectiveness and efficiency of operations and associated policy
   • Suggest changes to operations or policy if necessary

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

perform board/committee duties in accordance with organisational constitution, codes of conduct, legislation and internal policies and procedures

manage conflicts of interest.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

Knowledge Evidence

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

outline decision-making techniques

compare and contrast governance and management roles and responsibilities

outline how legislation and funding arrangements or funding body requirements impact roles and responsibilities of committee and/or board members.
