Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Assess potential for use of low and zero carbon technologies.
  2. Advise client on selection of low and zero carbon technologies

Range Statement

This section specifies work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included. Bold italicised wording, if used in the performance criteria, is detailed below.

Low and zero carbon energy technologies must include at least one of the following:

biomass

ground cooling

ground source heat pumps

mini hydro systems

passive solar design

small combined heat and power systems

solar photovoltaics

solar thermal

wind power.

Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy the requirements of the elements, performance criteria, foundation skills and range of conditions of this unit.

The person must also promote low and zero carbon energy technologies to a client for one residential building by assessing the potential for the use of the technologies, and advising on the selection of appropriate low and zero carbon energy technologies.

In doing the above, the person must:

conduct a site inspection as part of assessing the potential for the use of the technologies in the building

identify potential opportunities and constraints regarding the use of the technologies in the building

advise client on the selection and use of low and zero carbon energy technologies.

Knowledge Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must demonstrate knowledge of:

purpose and key features relating to thermal performance and energy efficiency in the National Construction Code (NCC)

energy and power:

terminology:

energy
