Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Identify and access swimming pool and spa technical manuals.
   • Work instructions are read and interpreted to identify work task to be carried out.
   • Relevant manuals are accessed for the swimming pool or spa component or system to be maintained or repaired.
   • Version of the manual is clearly established to ensure that correct specifications and procedures are applied.
   • Storage, back-up and retrieval procedures for manuals are followed.
2. Interpret and apply information in swimming pool and spa technical manuals.
   • Relevant technical information is located using search techniques appropriate to type of manual and work to be carried out.
   • Information in manual is interpreted and procedures to be followed are accurately determined.
   • Clarification or further explanation of technical information is obtained, where required.
   • Correct procedures are carried out in line with the information in manufacturer manuals for the swimming pool or spa component or system to be maintained.

This section specifies work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included. Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy the requirements of the elements, performance criteria, foundation skills and range of conditions of this unit.

The person must also select and use information in technical swimming pool and spa manuals to complete two different work tasks involving the maintenance or repair of a swimming pool or spa component or system.

In doing the above, the person must:

identify and access swimming pool and spa manuals

interpret information in the manuals

facilitate retrieval of manuals by following storage, back-up and retrieval procedures.

procedures for storing, backing up and retrieving swimming pool and spa manuals

requirements for custody and upkeep of industry manuals

techniques for searching for data in industry manuals
