Elements and Performance Criteria

Swimming pool cleaning and vacuuming system must include at least two of the following:

built-in floor systems

electric self-propelled cleaners

pressure cleaners

suction cleaners.

Service and maintenance requirements must include:

adjustments

cleaning

confirming operation of system

identifying worn parts

inspecting

lubricating

programming automated systems

replacing consumable or worn parts

routine repairs

testing.

Troubleshooting must include:

identifying standard faults using relevant manuals and specifications as required

identifying from first principles faults beyond available maintenance data for swimming pool cleaning and vacuuming system

fault finding during scheduled or unscheduled maintenance activities

individual activities or troubleshooting tasks performed during the supervision of other personnel.


Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy the requirements of the elements, performance criteria, foundation skills and range of conditions of this unit.

The person must also demonstrate safe procedures when working with swimming pool cleaning and vacuuming systems, including:

installing one cleaning and vacuuming system

servicing one cleaning and vacuuming system

repairing one cleaning and vacuuming system.

In doing the above, the person must:

interpret work instructions

select and use personal protective equipment (PPE)

install and test swimming pool cleaning and vacuuming system, excluding gas systems, in line with client and enterprise requirements

troubleshoot routine and complex faults in swimming pool cleaning and vacuuming system

complete installation, repair and service activities.


Knowledge Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must demonstrate knowledge of:

Australian Competition and Consumer Commission product safety guidelines

commonwealth, state or territory legislation, and local government regulations, Australian standards, and codes of practice impacting on the routine maintenance of swimming pools relating to:

dangerous goods

electrical and plumbing regulations controlling conduct of electrical and plumbing work

environmental protection

environmental health

private and public swimming pools

waste disposal

work health and safety (WHS)

swimming pool cleaning and vacuuming system:

purpose of system

basic operating principles

common faults

components

maintenance procedures

operating principles

types of cleaning and vacuuming systems:

built-in floor systems

electric self-propelled cleaners

pressure cleaners

suction cleaners.
