Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Determine maintenance requirements.
   • Information is obtained and analysed to establish swimming pool or spamaintenance requirements.
   • Industry benchmarks are reviewed to determine maintenance intervals and other requirements.
   • Workplace health and safety (WHS) and other relevant regulatory requirements are interpreted and incorporated into maintenance requirements.
2. Develop swimming pool or spa maintenance plan.
   • Maintenance plan is established.
   • Maintenance costs are established.
   • Contract specifications for maintenance services are developed, where appropriate.
   • Safety and security requirements are incorporated into maintenance plan.
   • Criteria are established for selecting tradespeople and other specialist service providers to support maintenance activities.
   • Register of tradespeople and other specialist service providers is compiled and maintained.
   • Maintenance schedule is established.
   • Systems for recording and implementing maintenance requirements and reporting to client are established.
   • Aspects of maintenance plan requiring specialist services are identified and assistance is sought as required.
3. Implement maintenance plan.
   • Maintenance plan, including fees, is presented to client.
   • Agreed maintenance plan is implemented.
   • Information is provided to client on compliance of swimming pool or spa and environs with safety legislation.
4. Review maintenance plan.
   • Maintenance plan is assessed.
   • Outcomes of assessment are presented to client.
   • Recommendations for improvement to maintenance plan are presented to and agreed with client.
   • Maintenance plan reflecting identified improvements is prepared.

Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy the requirements of the elements, performance criteria, foundation skills and range of conditions of this unit.

The person must also:

develop a maintenance plan for one swimming pool and one spa that includes procedures for selecting maintenance contractors and maintaining safety and security of clients

implement a maintenance plan for one swimming pool and one spa

review a maintenance plan for one swimming pool and one spa.

In doing the above, the person must:

determine client requirements for the maintenance plan for the above swimming pools and spas

determine maintenance requirements for the above swimming pools and spas.
