Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy the requirements of the elements, performance criteria, foundation skills and range of conditions of this unit.

The person must also dispose of waste water to sewers for two separate tasks.

While disposing of waste water to sewers, the person must:

obtain and confirm waste transport and disposal approvals

review work sheets to identify waste disposal requirements

check waste water to ensure it meets sewer acceptance criteria

lock and seal inlets, outlets and hatches to the waste water storage facility to prevent waste water contamination

take samples of waste water for testing and analysis to ensure it meets compliance requirements

carry out waste water disposal, including:

communicate with relevant authorities to confirm discharge is received and to lock, tag and secure the outlet

unlocking the outlet and attaching the flowmeter to record volume discharged

checking the trade waste diversion to ensure correct operating conditions

monitoring the sewer water discharge to ensure smooth flow and to regulate or divert flow to alleviate system backlogs

shutting the off valve and lock-up systems when waste water disposal is completed

follow organisational procedures to work safely and comply with regulatory and legal requirements

maintain drainage system to prevent contamination, blockages, obstructions and leaks

record details of waste water disposal activities on organisational proformas.


Knowledge Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must demonstrate knowledge of:

environmental issues relating to waste water disposal

hazards and risks relating to waste water disposal and drainage system blockages

key features of the waste management hierarchy

liquid waste classification as water

organisational policies and procedures and regulatory and legal requirements relating to waste water disposal

trade waste certificate or permit conditions

waste water contaminations

waste water disposal methods.
