Range Statement

This section specifies work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included. Waste audit planmust include:

client requirements

date, time and duration of audit

equipment requirements

personnel requirements

sampling requirements

site access requirements

site-specific requirements.

Compliance requirements must include:

commonwealth, state and territory legislation relating to planning waste audits, including:

environmental protection

hazardous substances and dangerous goods

client confidentiality and privacy

industry codes

work health and safety

licensing requirements.

Equipment must include at least five of the following:

absorbent material

bunding equipment

camera

collection containers

lifting gear

measuring equipment

PPE

safety barriers and warning signs

sample bench

scales.

Specific site requirements must include:

access and egress points

security clearances

time of access

union requirements

work health and safety requirements and noise control

work permits.

Relevant personnel must include at least one of the following:

client

manager or supervisor

waste generator or waste generator personnel.

Waste audit activity details must include:

accidents and injuries

date

equipment used

location

results and findings

time

waste disposal.


Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy the requirements of the elements, performance criteria, foundation skills and range of conditions of this unit.

The person must also conduct two waste audits.

While conducting above waste audits, the person must:

consult with site personnel to set up the audit site and carry out data collection activities

conduct a waste audit which complies with the waste audit plan, including:

identifying, sorting, measuring and recording waste

identifying unanticipated waste

validating the results

obtain and use equipment required to conduct the audit

record and compile waste audit data for presentation to relevant personnel

record waste audit activity details, as specified in the range of conditions

follow organisational procedures to work safely and comply with regulatory and legal requirements.


Knowledge Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must demonstrate knowledge of:

classifications of waste

hazards and risks associated with waste including hazardous substances and dangerous goods

organisational policies and procedures and regulatory and legal requirements relating to waste audits

waste audit processes, including:

available reprocessing options

material densities

nature and significance of waste minimisation hierarchy

potential hazards and risks

sampling and recording techniques

unanticipated waste

visual assessment procedures

waste containment methods

waste disposal and recovery methods

waste non-conformances

waste resource recovery and management options

waste types, streams and characteristics.
