Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Review and evaluate landfill rehabilitation strategies.
   • Landfill rehabilitation strategies are reviewed to identify all site development options in consultation with client and team members.
   • Team is assisted to assess lifecycle and feasibility of landfill rehabilitation strategies to ensure plan is realistic and achievable and complies with client and compliance requirements.
2. Identify landfill rehabilitation requirements.
   • Local government authorities are consulted regarding local provenance guidelines pertaining to landfill rehabilitation plan according to organisational and compliance requirements.
   • Landfill rehabilitation plan is produced that addresses soil profile construction to ensure contamination is stabilised according to compliance requirements.
   • Landfill rehabilitation plan is checked to ensure it includes implementation strategies and meets client’s environmental objectives, and modifications are made as required.
   • Landfill rehabilitation plan is documented according to organisational requirements.
3. Present landfill rehabilitation plan.
   • Final landfill rehabilitation plan is presented to client according to organisational requirements.
   • Explanation of rationale, benefits and implementation process is provided to ensure that client is satisfied with plan.
   • Feedback from client is obtained and integrated into plan according to organisational requirements.

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy the requirements of the elements, performance criteria, foundation skills and range of conditions of this unit.

The person must also work with a team to develop one landfill rehabilitation plan, including:

identifying features and requirements of the landfill rehabilitation plan based on:

an evaluation of landfill rehabilitation strategies to determine all site development options and feasibility of land rehabilitation strategies

feasibility and lifecycle assessments to ensure the plan is realistic and achievable

consultation with local government authorities regarding local provenance guidelines pertaining to the landfill rehabilitation plan

ensuring the following is incorporated or addressed:

construction of soil profile that ensures contamination is stabilised

implementation strategies, as specified in the range of conditions

client and legal compliance requirements

landfill methods which comply with environmental regulations

presenting the documented landfill rehabilitation plan to the client, including:

providing a detailed explanation of rationale, benefits and the implementation process

providing answers and clarification to client questions

obtaining feedback from clients and integrating the feedback into the plan.
