Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Ensure compliance with security procedures
   • Identify all security and emergency procedures relevant to own work role.
   • Oversee implementation of relevant security procedures according to the level of risk.
   • Provide instruction to work group on potential security risks.
   • Report potential breaches of security and/or faults to appropriate authority.
2. Maintain safety and security of staff and/or offenders
   • Maintain dynamic security actions by ensuring regular and consistent interaction with offenders or staff and sharing of information and observations.
   • Ensure security functions and activities relating to the care and wellbeing of offenders are implemented.
   • Coordinate response to security breaches involving staff or offenders.
3. Maintain safety and security documentation
   • Participate in the routine review of security procedures and responses according to own level of responsibility.
   • Complete security documentation.
   • Manage and store security files.

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the candidate must demonstrate evidence of performance of the following on at least two occasions.

using a range of communication equipment and information sources accurately

maintaining accurate documentation

making decisions

using effective oral and written communication

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the depth of knowledge demonstrated must be appropriate to the job context of the candidate.
