- Participate in pre-production activities
- Clarify aspects of production briefs and production values in consultation with relevant personnel
- Investigate original choreographic work in screen productions, taking into account the advantages and limitations of the medium
- Research style and other aspects of dance appropriate to the content or storyline of productions
- Organise resources in line with production requirements
- Establish a schedule for viewing material with relevant personnel to monitor implications for composing dance elements
- Generate ideas for choreography
- Prepare plans for completing work in line with briefs, and negotiate contracts as required
- Conduct briefings for others involved in the process as required
- Research appropriate aspects of the production to inform ideas on content or storyline
- Generate a range of ideas, movements and starting points, and experiment with options that communicate themes
- Investigate the potential of structural elements for achieving desired effects
- Transform choreographic ideas into the stage or screen setting
- Discuss plans with relevant personnel and refine as required
- Create original choreography
- Apply a range of advanced composition techniques to organise dance elements into working versions of themes that support productions
- Collaborate in the construction of musical and choreographic material to create choreography that responds to rhythmic structures in music
- Collaborate with relevant personnel on technical production of performances as part of the choreographic process
- Incorporate safe dance practices through phases of the creative process to minimise risk of injury to performers
- Finalise choreography using dance notation
- Produce work for public performances
- Clearly explain the ideas that works are presenting and the methodology used to develop works, to a standard suitable to public performance
- Effectively direct and rehearse with dancers and technicians
- Refine and stage pieces for performance spaces
- View works with relevant personnel and seek feedback on how well composition meets creative and technical requirements
- Incorporate ideas and suggestions into final compositions
- Perform pieces to audiences convincingly and consistently over repeated performances with energy, commitment and focus
- Evaluate choreography of public performances
- Discuss aspects of the composition process that worked well and what could be improved with relevant personnel
- Evaluate the quality and success of the choreography in terms of how well it met production requirements and planned outcomes
- Evaluate own role in operations and note areas for improvement
- Use results of evaluation to improve own work practices
- Provide feedback to team members on their performance as required
