Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Source information on copyright
   • Identify sources of information on copyright, to determine what is and what is not protected by copyright
   • Identify and determine the role of copyright collection societies
   • Identify and discuss copyright laws and regulations with relevant personnel
2. Obtain permission to use copyright material
   • Identify copyright owner’s exclusive rights to creative works
   • Determine need for copyright clearance and identify potential for fair use of copyright material
   • Discuss and confirm copyright clearance issues with relevant personnel
   • Determine if moral rights or performer’s rights need to be credited
   • Obtain and accurately record copyright clearance permissions
3. Protect material from unauthorised use
   • Confirm original work as being the result of individual or collaborative effort
   • Discuss and formally record copyright ownership or proportional ownership with relevant personnel
   • Identify and confirm individual or collaborative copyright responsibilities
   • Identify potential infringements to copyright claims
   • Apply copyright notices on creative works in a correct manner
   • Prepare, date and store documentation to track copyright notices
