Elements and Performance Criteria

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

perform dance sequences on at least two occasions that demonstrate:

ability to perform with strong stage presence and confidence

well-developed techniques in the chosen dance style

spatial awareness in relation to other performers

respond to constructive feedback on own skills development

follow safe dance practices

use terminology associated with chosen dance style correctly.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided for each of the above points at least once.


Knowledge Evidence

To complete the unit requirements the individual must:

explain how the following principles relate to performing dance sequences:

relationship with gravity

spatial awareness

successional movement

use of breath

folding

extending

rotating

shifting weight

explain how the following apply in the context of safe dance practice and injury prevention:

articulation of the spine

engagement of the feet

bases of support, including feet, legs, hands, arms and torso

range of motion of the joints

differentiation of the legs and pelvis

healthy nutrition and diet

explain and demonstrate:

key characteristics of relevant dance styles and genres when rehearsing and performing pieces

how the musical elements of time signatures, beat, tempo and syncopation apply to dance technique

describe ways to prepare for auditions and competitions

in the context of preparing for performances, describe:

performance psychology techniques

how aspects of stagecraft relate to dancers

describe the characteristics and history of chosen dance styles.
