Elements and Performance Criteria
- Maintain a physical conditioning program
- In consultation with relevant personnel, identify a range of techniques to prevent injuries and improve stamina, strength and flexibility
- Set realistic physical conditioning goals aimed at improving own dance technique
- Identify risk factors that may inhibit the achievement of goals and seek professional advice as required
- Take fatigue and personal limitations into account when undertaking physical conditioning program
- Perform warm-up and warm-down activities in conjunction with dance activities
- Ensure that clothing and footwear are appropriate for exercise regime and dance technique
- Extend dancing skills to include musical theatre
- Practise a range of exercises in preparation for dance routines
- Work with others to develop expertise in performing with a partner and in an ensemble
- Practise solo pieces as required
- Develop techniques for integrating singing into dance routines and performing with different microphone placements
- Extend the relationship between acting and dance in musical theatre
- Apply knowledge of musical rhythms and musical theatre styles to dance routines
- Convey choreographic intent of routines through confident and precise execution of dance techniques
- Maintain expertise
- Practise and refine dancing techniques relevant to musical theatre
- Maintain and update knowledge of musical theatre trends
- Use feedback from others to identify and develop ways to improve own dancing skills
- Regularly view performances by industry practitioners as a way of sourcing new ideas, identifying trends, maintaining motivation, and improving own technique
