Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Interpret creative briefs
   • Analyse scripts and related documentation to determine creative and technical criteria for productions
   • Participate in preliminary concept meetings to discuss scope of production requirements
   • Identify factors that may determine and affect development of camera plans
   • Generate a range of preliminary ideas for camera coverage in response to briefs and provide creative solutions to production requirements
   • Discuss and refine ideas with production personnel until a workable approach emerges
2. Identify camera coverage requirements
   • Review reference material that could assist decisions about camera coverage
   • Identify basic structural camera shots for realising scenes and investigate their potential for achieving narrative outcomes
   • Confirm camera coverage is appropriate to contextual and stylistic requirements
   • Evaluate ideas in collaboration with relevant production personnel to determine viability of proposed concepts
   • Prepare and distribute documentation about proposed camera coverage for use by production personnel
3. Develop draft camera plans
   • Develop camera coverage that addresses visual and narrative aspects of production

Evidence of the ability to:

develop documentation that outlines approaches to camera coverage

outline strategies for visualising written narratives in draft camera plans, incorporating input from production personnel

communicate and negotiate effectively with creative and production personnel during the process of developing, testing and finalising camera plans.
