Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Undertake routine maintenance of equipment
   • Check required maintenance is within scope of licence
   • Safely clean and maintain equipment, cables and accessories
   • Conduct safety checks on equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions
   • Check, source and replace spare parts and consumables according to enterprise procedures
   • Accurately record checked and maintained items, and provide copies of documents to relevant personnel
2. Repair production equipment
   • Check required repairs are within scope of licence
   • Identify faults and safely shut down equipment if necessary
   • Isolate fault using fault-detection procedures, and determine nature of repairs
   • Tag faulty production equipment
   • Safely make minor repairs to faulty equipment to meet agreed deadlines
   • Discuss faults and repairs with technical specialists, if required
   • Refer complex repairs to technical specialists, in consultation with relevant personnel
3. Review and document maintenance activity
   • Complete maintenance documentation and distribute to relevant personnel as required
   • Review all repair and maintenance activities to ensure compliance with work health and safety (WHS) law and regulations and enterprise procedures

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

safely undertake routine maintenance and repairs on production equipment efficiently, using manufacturer’s service and technical manuals if required

select and use cleaning, maintenance and repair equipment correctly

undertake logical fault detection procedures

tag faulty equipment and document maintenance and repairs.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

Knowledge Evidence

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

describe licensing issues that impact repair and maintenance of equipment, including the role of the restricted electrical licence, and testing and tagging certification

describe effects of not maintaining production equipment

list typical maintenance schedules for a range of relevant production equipment

list appropriate cleaning agents, maintenance and repair equipment

list common faults and associated detection and repair procedures for the relevant range of equipment

identify sources for spare parts and consumables for the relevant range of production equipment

identify work health and safety legislation and regulations as they apply to technical maintenance activities.
