Elements and Performance Criteria
- Plan installation of lighting systems
- Clarify lighting requirements in consultation with relevant personnel
- Plan lighting control systems with reference to information in lighting designs and production documentation
- Conduct site or venue inspections to identify issues to be incorporated into planning of lighting installation and operations
- Compile a list of resources needed to develop lighting control systems that meet production requirements
- Where possible, incorporate into the planning process new developments in lighting technology and innovative approaches to producing lighting effects
- Develop contingency plans to minimise the impact of unexpected events on the installation and operation of lighting systems
- Do a job safety analysis of tasks and incorporate health and safety considerations into overall planning
- Develop and document, in an agreed format, a work plan for installing lighting systems
- Organise resources
- Develop realistic expenditure estimates that conform to budget allocations
- Hire or purchase required resources according to organisational procedures
- Identify potential budget overruns and resolve or recommend alternatives to relevant personnel
- Organise crew in line with industry award guidelines
- Organise the services of licensed personnel as required
- Supervise the installation process
- Supervise the connection of control systems
- Monitor progress of lighting system installation against work plans and implement contingency plans as required to ensure that production deadlines are met
- Ensure that all work activities comply health and safety and industry award guidelines
- Progressively test aspects of lighting system installation to check that lighting effects specified in designs can be achieved
- Use sight, sound and smell to identify faults in lighting equipment and accessories
- Review finished installation with relevant personnel and make adjustments as required
