Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

identify and use a range of methods to practise and develop improvisation techniques

perform simple solo improvisation in chosen area with members of an ensemble, including:

improvising with notes and ideas that fit in with the structure of the piece

giving and following cues

adjusting own playing in response to the playing of others

observing customs, protocols and safety requirements

use feedback from others to improve own techniques.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.


Knowledge Evidence

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

explain features of chosen pieces and their musical forms and conventions for improvisation, including:

instrumental combinations in selected area of specialisation

phrasing and shaping music appropriately

techniques for responding to work of others

outline issues and challenges that typically arise in the context of developing improvisation performances and possible strategies to overcome them

outline work health and safety (WHS) principles as they apply to using musical instruments and performing in a range of environments.
